Develop regulatory science-compliant, fit-for-purpose metagenomics protocols and methodologies for the characterisation and safety evaluation of complex microbial mixtures in regulated products (e.g., competitive exclusion products used as feed additives). The project will establish standardised analytical frameworks for taxonomic characterisation, detection of safety-relevant genomic features (e.g. antimicrobial resistance genes, virulence factors), and risk assessment decision-support tools. This project aims to addresses short-term regulatory needs while establishing a foundation for broader metagenomics adoption in EFSA’s risk assessments.
