Empirical analyses on innovation capabilities and industrial dynamics in European rural areas

The objective of this contract is to analyse innovation capabilities and industrial dynamics in European rural areas using econometric, machine learning, and economic complexity methods. The analyses shall address two issues of EU policy-relevance: (i) The demand for innovation skills in EU rural areas compared to non-rural (i.e., intermediate and urban) areas, and their relationship with regional industrial dynamics. (ii) The evolution of workers', firms', and other territorial capabilities to estimate development pathways and growth potential in EU rural areas compared to non-rural areas.
