As a Class 1 facility, JRC‑Geel is required by environmental legislation (e.g., VLAREM II, DABM) to appoint an Environmental Coordinator. In addition, because the site is EMAS‑registered, it must meet a set of supplementary obligations. Consequently, JRC‑Geel must hire a qualified and experienced level A Environmental Coordinator (who can perform the compulsory duties set out in DABM and VLAREM II and fulfil additional EMAS requirements. This coordinator will also handled legal compliance tasks, ensuring that JRC‑Geel operates in line with all applicable Flemish, Belgian and European environmental regulations.
